Ongoing Monitoring and Evaluation

Ongoing Monitoring

Selecting which funds to invest in is only part of the process. A return on capital is generated by the funds already in the portfolio, hence much of the work done by the research team involves monitoring markets, the hedge fund universe and all invested managers, from both an investment and operational perspective, to ensure that these funds are performing in line with our expectations and adhering to their investment guidelines.

Strategy Review

The process starts with a review of the current macroeconomic environment, focusing on how this might affect the Aurum portfolios over the coming months. In addition, the analysts carry out a thorough and detailed peer-group analysis assessing invested manager’s performance relative to the peer-group and also potentially highlighting managers they warrant further analysis.

This takes place formally on a 6 month basis at the Strategy Review meeting.  While the Aurum Funds are actively managed to reflect the current environment, it is important to note they do not typically try to make big thematic calls by allocating large amounts of capital to the latest trend or theme. Instead Aurum seeks to consistently but dynamically allocate capital across a range of liquid strategies. We believe it is this approach that has resulted in the Funds’ stable performance over the long term that is independent of financial market directionality.

Monitoring

Funds

Every invested fund is assigned two analysts, investment and operational, who undertake the initial research and then continue to monitor the fund throughout the life of investment
